Modern Tulsa

Dustin let me shoot some photos of his pad the other day and has graciously allowed me to display them. His Lortondale modern is near original and looks great. He has done a fabulous job restoring the home and furnishing it.

Walking inside feels just as I would imagine this home soon after it was built, when the neighborhood was proud to be progressive and flourishing. Dustin has an amazing collection of mid-century modern furniture and artwork. Practically everything in sight is vintage, aside from the Apple IMac computer in his office, though the desk it sat on was of course a relic.

Vintage does not in all cases mean tasteful. But in this case Dustin has excellent taste and has done in my opinion a wonderful job with the place.

This is one of my favorite homes in Tulsa. Right on Utica Ave. between 36th and 41st street.  This is a rarity being a modern in a convenient Midtown, Tulsa location. These are too few. Someday I hope to live here. Who knows the architect/history/owner of this place?

All right, here is another pic I recently took. First off, who knows what building this is? Additionally, can anyone share anything interesting about when it was constructed, who built it, etc? Comment away.

Here’s and idea I had. I will feature interesting modern building around town and you guys can try to guess where they are. Please share anything you may know as well. Who designed it, when was is built, etc. Tell me if this is a dumb idea.

I thought I would begin posting some random pics of modern structures I found interesting. I may not have much insight but hey, maybe you have something to share. I hope this will become a weekly deal so let me know if you have any suggestions for future locations.

I dubbed this one Working Man’s Modern because it is quite unpretentious yet has great modern style. In midtown, between Lewis and Harvard 15th and 21st, this mid century place seems out of place among the historic bungalows and more traditional cottages but I love it. In particular I appreciate how the materials appear to be very economical. Concrete blocks, wood shingles, even a butterfly roof! Does anyone know anything more about this place?
