moderntulsa will be holding an open house and exhibit at the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture Archives on Thursday, August, 26. On display will be architectural drawings and renderings, photographs, and architectural periodicals; all highlighting Tulsa’s modern architecture.

Join us for wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres, and Tulsa’s best modern architecture on Thursday, August 26 from 5:30-8:30pm in the Kennedy Building lobby, 321 S. Boston.

The Robert Lawton  Jones house, built in 1959, will be having an open house Thursday, June 24th. Bob Jones was a principal of Murray Jones Murray which was responsible for some of Oklahoma’s most iconic modern structures. Join the folks from Modern Tulsa at the event.

moderntulsa is excited to announce its second mod of the moment. Join us Sunday March, 28th from  5 – 7 pm for drinks, refreshments, music and modern design at a 1956 Jack Hudson designed mid-century modern home located at the 1546 East 60th street.  Located in Tulsa’s Southern Gardens, the house is the sister house of the 1956 Parade of Homes house”The Haven”, just a few doors down. Designed by Jack Hudson and built by Doran Johnson, “The Haven” offered more than comfortable and easy living, it offered safety from bombs and storms as well. The home was built with a reinforced concrete bomb-shelter that served as the hallway from the family and living rooms to the three bedrooms. Sound intriguing join us this Sunday to see it for yourself!

Hans Hofmann

Circa 1950
February 21 – May 9, 2010

Hans Hofmann created an extraordinary body of work for architect Josep Sert’s 1950 Peruvian city plan called the Chimbote Project. The nine painting studies Hofmann produced for a series of murals form a concise and inspired example of the depth of Hofmann’s strengths as an abstract painter and modernist visionary and form the core of this exhibition, along with other major works from this important year in Hofmann’s career.

Modern Tulsa is excited to announce our partnership this month with Philbrook’s 3rd Thursday speaker series.

The popular 3rd Thursday series begins January 21st 2010 with a bang. Eames Demetrios, grandson of legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames and current director of the Eames Office, will join us for a discussion on design vs. style. For this event, Mr. Demetrios will be sharing a few treasures from the family archive as well as signing books and posters.

The objects Charles and Ray Eames designed are legendary for their beauty and utility, but the ideas behind them are just as beautiful and useful. Eames Demetrios, author of An Eames Primer, director of the Eames Office and a member of the Eames family, will provide a personal look at the designers, their process, philosophy and influence on the design world.

Eames Demetrios is dedicated to communicating, preserving, and extending the work of Charles and Ray Eames. His projects include multimedia production, printed materials, toys, exhibition design, filmmaking and much more.
